Have fun with Snoozy!

It has been a couple of very busy months here in retro baby land with a lot happening such as VIP sale (you better sign up for our newsletter to find out what that is all about!), Christmas Calendar, great press and of course the arrival of new labels IdaT and Snoozy. I suddenly realised that I haven't properly introduced Snoozy to you on the blog so shame on me and here we go!

Snoozy Scandinavia is a brand new Swedish label and they are all about vivid colours and fun and happy prints. The first small collection arrived at Baby goes Retro in late October and what an instant success they turned out to be! The clothes barely touched the shelves until they were sold. We were of course delighted as it's always slightly nerve racking introducing a new label and not knowing how you are going to perceive it. There is still a few styles left so have a browse and pick up an outfit that we guarantee that your kiddie's are going to love.

Sweet summer livin'

For easy summer fashion you can't go past the beautiful and serene fashion shoot in the summer issue of My Child Magazine. It's a stunning spread with lovely pieces for fashion forward pre schoolers. When I was a little girl growing up in Sweden I used to have an Advent Calendar (or should I say about 6, 7 of them!). It's so much fun and a great way of counting down to Christmas, especially when you are a child and it is so very hard to wait for that day big day when finally you get to open all the wonderful presents under the tree. Advent Calendars are a huge part of preparing for Christmas in Sweden so we thought we share the fun with you and have now launched The Baby goes Retro Christmas Calendar for the month of December! Stripes and apples for the beach

Never has it been this much fun to hit the beach in summer! With all the gorgeous swim wear out there for your littlies they can stay fashionable (and sunsafe) whilst covered in sand (and probably crumbs and fruit leftovers from the beach picnic bag). We are pretty excited that you seem to think the same way and have embraced the swimwear range from cool and stylish Sandy Feet. They love it at Wondertime magazine as well so check out the Striped Swim shorts for little waterkids. They can be bought on its own or as a set with the First mate Rashie.

We also have to mention the super funky one piece by Katvig. This cossie has been flying out the door and sadly we are not able to get our hands on any more. Katvig has totally run out and we are not surprised, it's just irresistible. However there is a few ones left so you have to be very quick especially now when it has featured in the must have mag for those who love shopping - Shop Til You Drop.

Beautiful dresses for a beautiful girl

I would love to see my little girl wearing dresses by our featured labels but I'm not sure if it's a phase (she's 2!) or maybe she just wants to be like her older brother but I can't for my life get her to wear one! And believe you me I have tried every trick in the book as her whole wardrobe is full of wonderful retro frocks in all colours and styles but to no avail. Considering this you can imagine how excited I was to see these wonderful pics in our inbox. Stella is a gorgeous little girl from Adelaide and as you can see she has quite a good taste in clothes and she loves wearing beautiful dresses! Her mum, who is a loyal customer of ours was so kind to share some pics with us of her daughter. We think she is looking absolutely stunning in her Dotline dress by nanoou and her Red striped Mermaid dress by Danefae.

Gorgeous IdaT is here!

There is a saying in Sweden; "The one who waits for something good never waits too long". Well that was certainly true when it came to our new highly anticipated Danish label IdaT. We waited and we waited, there was a whole lot of delays in Denmark and here in Australia and then finally the boxes were on our doorstep! I'm happy to say that we are absolutely over the moon with how cute and funky the clothes are. We are also thrilled about the fact that we are the first retailers in Australia to bring you this popular label with its sweet animal prints in great basic summer colours. It doesn't stop there, just listen to IdaT's philosophy - we love it! The IdaT design is based on the philosophy that animals inspires positive thoughts and make good conversation between children and grownups from all over the world.

Bedroom makeover

Quite a few customer inquiries have over the years been about if the labels we stock also do interior and bedding pieces. We are very happy to say that most of them do and that we have decided to start up a new section of our shop. We have called it Interior & Bedding (to not complicate things) and so far Plastisock has made an entrance with their well known and popular patterns. It's very colourful and fun, just the way kids like it. We have cute Yellow circus curtains (very easy to hang and will look fantastic in a newborn nursery). For the older kid we have the stylish Olive Forest single bedset (doona cover and pillowcase). Need somewhere to stash away those nappies, books, soft toys and other little nick knacks? Check out this funky 'Peace' wall storage solution. More beautiful products will arrive shortly so keep watching this space.

Picture perfect

One of our favourite times when working away in front of the computer is when emails like these drop into our inbox! Lisa from Merewether in NSW sent in some photos of her gorgeous son Sam, 19 months old. Of course we melted straight away at the sight of this handsome little man dressed head to toe in Baby goes Retro! In the photos Sam is wearing Ej sikke lej's Rainbow tee, Skummis tee by Snoffs and Denim pants by Plastisock.

Trend watch - Owls

At Baby goes Retro we are big fans of cute, fun, quirky and colourful animal prints. One of our absolute favourite animals is the owl. It's just something about that bird that appeal to everybody. Maybe it is the enormous eyes or the supposedly wise nature. It doesn't matter we just love them in all shapes and forms!

Check out the current edition of Mother & Baby Magazine for a great collection of gorgeous owls. Emma from Narre Warren in Victoria sent us these great pics of her gorgeous son (10 months) last week. We can't believe how cute he is and how well he is carrying off those funky tops! Look at those cheeks and big beautiful eyes. She says in her email how "hard it is to find such great tops for boys that not everyone is wearing, and every time we go out we always get comments about his tops from your website...Very rewarding!!" Thank you Emma, for us that is fantastic to hear and really makes our day shine even brighter! The Green Corner - September

In our monthly newsletters we try to highlight great ideas and funky clothing that are "green", organic or otherwise planet friendly. It has been a very appreciated segment so after some suggestions from our customers we decided to put The Green Corner on our website so you can easily find everything that falls into that category. Browse either Organic Cotton or Oeko-Tex & other Earth friendly Materials for a fantastic selection of cool clothes and accessories.

In this months newsletter we put Katvig in The Green Corner for using organic cotton and alternative sustainable fabrics such as bamboo. Katvig goes bright, fun and organic for spring and summer and we love it!

We are so thrilled and proud to see our clothes on the cover of the latest Spring issue of fabulous My Child Magazine. The photo is amazing - super cute baby with super cool Plastisock hoodie! He is also wearing a nanoou T-shirt underneath but it has already sold out, sorry.

Inside the mag you'll find the most striking and retro inspired fashion shoot ever we think. Another Plastisock piece - Blue Peace jumpsuit, worn by the same (cute) baby has also sold out in a flash! We do have the T-shirt and the shorts in the same print, equally gorgeous so don't despair. Last but certainly not least please check out the Katvig Midi apple T-shirt in bright and happy green.

History lesson anyone?

When I was in school I was really into the subject of history and especially the Nordic Mythology. Growing up in Sweden I guess that was something we had to learn about and I loved all the different stories about the good gods and their various battles against the not so nice ones. So it is rather funny now that one of our labels, Danefae gets their inspiration for their designs from those tales and other Nordic heritage characters.

This week we have welcomed Danefae's new collection that has as always great colour combos and striking prints. Check out the bright, multi striped Sleipner Tee for girls. Sleipner was Odins (the boss of all gods) eight legged horse. The Viking tee with Thor's hammer will for sure become a favourite with the boys. Thor was the god of thunder and lightning. He drove his carriage across the sky and that was what the humans heard as thunder, and when he banged his hammer lightning flashed. He certainly had a temper that Thor! This Viking tee made us laugh as he seems to be doing Yoga, hmmm not too sure if that was on the weekly schedule of a viking, but it is designed with humour which we love.

Pregnant AND stylish?!

When I flick through the current issue of Cosmo Pregnancy I spot all these wonderful, cool and very flattering outfits for mums to be and and I think I might even have to go and make another baby just so I can wear those gorgeous clothes! When I was pregnant with my first child (he is now 5) there was nearly nothing out there that looked remotely trendy and fashionable. I lived in Melbourne at the time and I remember I had to trek to the other side of town to get to this funky Maternity boutique and it was so worth it! Finally I could look really good despite a big huge belly and it worked wonders in the office where I worked to still be able to look professional and groomed. With my second child the maternity fashion scene had really started to take off and I was so relieved, but on the other hand we experienced a heatwave when I was in the third trimester so I was just happy to wear as little as possible:)

The Green Corner - July

Fashion forward Danish label Katvig has a mission and that is to be among the most environmental and health friendly clothing companies in the world! Wow, we think that is a fantastic goal to aim for. While totally in tune with European fashion trends Katvig is definitely doing their bit for our planet by using Oeko -Tex cotton (allergy friendly and no harmful substances) and new sustainable bamboo fabric. A little birdie whispered in our ear that soon their entire collection will be 100% organic and/or being made of recycled material such as plastic bottles (!). New friends

Just look at these cuddly, soft, adorable little softies by Snoffs!
They are called 'Nose' and 'Stripy' and they are the newest addition to the 'Skummis' family. What baby wouldn't love to snuggle up to one of these quirky friends in the cot or pram? We think they are the best comfort toy around and just the right size, like a cosy little pillow.

One man ship

Right now my colleague Helen is on a plane on her way to a beautiful summer Sweden. She is going on a 6 week holiday with her kids and oh my am I jealous! Well, someone has to hold the fort back here so that is me. She is going to have a wonderful time, seeing her family and friends but it's not only about lazing around in the sunshine, some work has to be done as well!

In August she will visit the CIFF Kids fair in Copenhagen. It is the place to be to find out about the latest trends and fashion in baby and kids wear and what's in stall for us next season. So very exciting to see what our beloved labels are up to in the future in terms of design, colours and patterns. What is most exciting is that Helen will get the chance to pick up some new funky labels that she can bring back to our store. Splash out

Winter is well and truly here with surprisingly cold mornings (the other day it was 6 degrees and we live in Queensland!). I could hardly believe it and let alone thinking that is going to be like this for the next three, four months. Brrrrr....Lucky there is so many cosy, snug and warm outfits out there, especially for our little precious bubs. For the really tiny ones you can't go wrong with an All in One. No awkward gaps between the top and bottoms where the chill can sneak in and if you choose a suit with feet there will be no incidents with lost socks and cold feet!

One of our absolute favourites in the suit department is the Splash range from nanoou. Check out the June/July issue of Australian Parents magazine where it is featured. We also stock the suit in green and in grey with white Splash print. This is definitely a must have for cool winter days. A bonus is of course that it is entirely made of 100% organic cotton. Yeah, go green!

We are thrilled that some of our cool threads have ended up in the fashion shoot – ‘get knotted’! The Green Corner - May

Yesterday we launched our new look newsletter. Brighter, happier, bigger and better! We just love that we can now show our customers a bit more of what's new in the shop, specials and great gift ideas amongst a lot more exiting features. Judging by the response we have had already I think you guys like it too which makes us very happy:)

One thing that has been on our mind for a while now and just waited for the right time and medium to be launched is the 'Green Corner'. We are so impressed with all our labels for their effort to make the world a better place for our kids to grow up in and they all have their unique approach to it. We wanted to share that with you so we all can 'go green' and be stylish at the same time. In the 'Green Corner' this month is Danish nanoou that just in two short years has managed to go from designing beautiful clothes for babies and kids to having their entire range made of 100% organic cotton. How good is that for the environment and our kids!? Check out their gorgeous collection here.

Rock'n Roll baby!

We were very excited when we checked out the April/May issue of Mother & Baby magazine. They have put together a very spunky Rock'n roll fashion shoot with some gorgeous outfits. You can find Katvig's Eggplant Tights on one of the little models. Tights are a great winter warmer and will spark up any dress if they are as cool as Katvig's! Check out the blue, black & white and green & turquoise ones as well.

Also in the magazine they feature Snoffs Pram mobile and it is for sure a great "old" favourite amongst our customers. And what's not to like about it?! Soft and cuddly in bright colours that will keep your baby entertained for hours. We have ordered some more so check back shortly if you like to grab one!

The colourful world of Plastisock

The Swedish brand Plastisock has just in a few seasons here at Baby goes Retro become a favourite for many parents and children. We believe this is due to the way their design immerses itself in the never ending world of kid’s imagination. Plastisock’s aim is to make fun, comfortable clothes for children to be active in. With colours and exciting prints they encourage curiosity, playfulness and a way of letting the child be him – or herself. Plastisock is stocked exclusively to Baby goes Retro and we are proud to present their new outstanding collection, now in store.
Check out the wonderful and unique ‘Fairytale’ pattern. All you see at a quick glance is a bright and colourful print but look a little closer and there it is! Wonderful little fairytale creatures such as dragons, knights, princesses, mermaids and much more will start to immerge. The pattern ‘Peace Please’ is Plastisock's wish for a healthy and peaceful world for all children to grow up in....and don't we all wish for that!

Shopping for baby

I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter with your families and friends. Personally I had to move house so the Easter bunny got a bit lost and only delivered a very small amount of chocolate eggs. A slight disappointment for my kids but for my waist it was a success:)!

While I was knee deep in boxes a great magazine called Shopping for Baby hit the shelves. It's an annual publication where you can find absolutely everything that you could possibly need for your baby. The mag is gorgeous and they have really done their research into what's useful, stylish, practical and just pure fun for a new little person. Check out the unique Snoffs Pram mobile (the editors fave!), we have it in four funky colour combinations, the ever so popular Viking Tee by Danefae and the one of a kind Peace tee by Plastisock. It sold out within a couple of days and unfortunately we couldn't get our hands on any more (we tried very hard, trust me) but don't despair we have got the short sleeve version instead and it's just as great!

Hello, what's your name?

This photo of little Ben, 15 months just made us smile when we saw it. His mum Melissa from Vic was the winner of the 2nd prize in our blog competition we ran last month. Last week she sent us an email with this fantastic photo of her little man wearing the Skummis tee by Snoffs which was one of the items she won. This is what she says in her email: " The tops are beautiful - thank you so much. They are just perfect on Ben and he'll get a lot of wear out of them now that the days are getting cooler here. I've sent you a picture of him wearing the Skummis top - it's a bit hard to get a picture of his face because he loves to look at the little monsters, point at them and chat to them - he looks so cute sitting on the floor talking to his clothes! Thanks again - we are thrilled!"

We have had our eyes on Swedish brand Elodie Details for a while now and just before Christmas last year we were pleased to announce the first arrivals into our store. And wow has that been a instant success! Who says you have to stop caring about design when you become a parent? As the need for functionality increases, the need for good design doesn’t go away. Well designed baby clothes have been available for some time, but the accompanying accessories are often overlooked. Elodie Details’ mission is to try and elevate those mundane products and make them into the stylish accessories they all have the potential to be. If you like a bit of bling for your baby browse their funky range of unique dummy holders or if you feel like being the coolest kid on the block check out their very unique Retro Revolution Stroller bag.

Peaceful & Adorable

Desie from Melbourne sent us an email with these adorable pics of her son a couple of days ago. He is nearly two and way too cute we think! Thank you so much Desie for sharing the photos with us. She recently purchased this bright and happy outfit and we really have to say it suits her son perfectly. The Peace Tee by Plastisock has quickly become a bestseller, not that strange we think because it's just great and has a message that we all can relate too. The Baggy Denim Pants are also by Plastisock and a fantastic garment to have as it goes with absolutely everything in your little ones wardrobe. It's all about being comfy and stylish!

Yes, it's out again! I'm talking about the great magazine Shop 4 Kids that is made for those of us that just love the idea of finding that special little outfit or that really unique piece of garment to dress our little munchkins in. The Autumn/Winter issue just hit the shelves this week and it is full to the brim with gorgeous gear for babies and kids.

I know I have mentioned it before but I do have to say it again; jumpsuits is the way to go when you need an instant cool outfit for your baby. In the this issue of Shop 4 Kids they have featured four of our suits that will make you want to go oohh and aahh. Ej sikke lej's too cute rainbow suit that is in stock at the moment and Katvig's stripy playsuit that has already sold out! The weird and wonderful world of Skummis and Snoffs

One of the creators of Snoffs Design is Anna Hokerberg. She also designs under the brand name Skummis which is a family of funny and colourful soft and cuddly shapes (in lack of a better word in English). We adore all her designs as they are so gorgeous, eye catching and lovable.

This week we received some new goodies from both Snoffs and Skummis that made us so excited and nearly in tears as we would have loved to keep some for our girls but unfortunately they are too old now.

We couldn't help but smile when we saw the adorable Skummis tee in two wonderful retro colour combinations, super cuddly comfort blankets and the ever so popular Ants in your Pants design, now in trousers just in time for autumn. Check it all out in our shop and we're sure you'll be smiling too!

Welcome to 2008 with Baby goes Retro! We hope that you all had a relaxing and fun time over Christmas and New Year. We are so excited about the year that lays ahead for our shop as we are expecting some seriously cool, wonderful and unique Autumn/Winter arrivals very soon. To start off the new year in a fun way we are holding a competition that will run from Mon 14th Jan to Thur 14th Feb 2008.


1st Prize is a $150 Shopping Spree at Baby goes Retro (valid for 6 months)
2nd Prize is a 'Secret' glossy Gift box beautifully wrapped in our signature wrapping (value approx $75)
3rd Prize is a New Mothers Journal - a fantastic tool to keep track of your life as a new mum (created by two Aussie mums, value $20)

There are two things you need to do to enter our fantastic competition:

1. You have to be signed up to receive our monthly newsletter, if you're not yet signed up please click here and enter your email address in the box on left hand side.
   
2. You need to send us an email telling us which one(s) of our featured labels Katvig, Plastisock, nanoou, Snoffs, Ej sikke lej and Danefae that is your favorite and why. Please include your full name and a contact number. You can also include any other feedback, suggestions or comments that you would like to share with us.
